Proverbs 12:25 – “First Flight” ?

Absorbing God’s Word

“Anxiety weighs down the heart, but a kind word cheers it up.” Proverbs 12:25

Applying God’s Word

I was about thirteen years of age, when I took my first ride on an airplane. I had won a trip to Disneyland for selling a certain number of newspaper subscriptions.

I remember boarding the airplane with a smile, but my insides were in knots. I kept thinking about how far off the ground we would be and the hundred other things that could go wrong on that short trip from San Jose to Los Angeles.

This Christmas, I paid to fly my family from San Jose to Palm Springs. None of my granddaughters (ages 7, 12, and 14) had ever flown before. On Christmas morning, they received their tickets to fly the very next day. Their excitement was through the roof, but right before takeoff anxiety and concern became more prevalent. I told them that God was riding up front with the pilots who wanted to safely get back on the ground just as much as we did. That seemed to cheer them up a bit.

My life has had many moments of anxiety and concern, which have weighed heavily on my heart. More times than not though, God has cheered me up with a kind or encouraging word through another person.

Accounting of God’s Word

Do I know someone today that is weighed down with anxiety; someone who can use a kind word to cheer them up?
