Absorbing God’s Word
“Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence, continue to work out your salvation …” Philippians 2:12
Applying God’s Word
At first glance, I want to boast that I’m doing that already. After all, I do spend time in prayer each day, listen to what God’s word is saying, pray for others and write the weekly Challenge; yada yada yada.
The key words in Philippians 2:12 are, “Continue To Work”. God is not just looking at all the work I/we did for Him yesterday or ten years ago. He wants the work He started in us to continue and to grow. The “Works” God has us doing to change the world are important, but the real change He is looking for should be happening inside of us.
This scripture is a gentle reminder that God is more interested in changing me, than He is in my changing the world without Him.
Accounting of God’s Word
How am I continuing to work out my salvation? Is what God has me doing to change the outside world changing me on the inside?
