John 16:7 – “Waiting”?

Absorbing God’s Word

“But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.”  John 16:7

Applying God’s Word

As a close friend to Jesus, can you imagine having Him tell you He must leave, but that He would be sending a replacement to be with you. This is what the disciples were hearing and attempting to digest. Waiting for proof must have been agonizing. They want to know if Jesus is the biggest liar they have ever met or God.

I used to hear the scriptures read at church and roll my eyes, thinking this stuff couldn’t possibly be true. It seemed to be anything but believable. I kept waiting for Jesus to show up and prove His existence. He did show up in my life repeatedly, but unfortunately, I didn’t recognize Him as God.

God pursues each of us every day. He is the one doing the waiting. He’s waiting for us to believe He’s who He says He is; God.

Accounting of God’s Word

Am I still waiting for proof? Do I still have eyes that can’t see Him and ears that can’t hear Him?
