Luke 6:32-33 “Complete Strangers” ?

Absorbing God’s Word

“If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that.” Luke 6:32-33

Applying God’s Word

Some friends joined us for dinner at a nearby restaurant. We walked in just before closing, but this sweet waitress greeted us and showed us to a table anyway.

Her hands shook as she handed us the menus. Before my mental judgements could be formed, she asked us to forgive her medical condition of hand tremors. She is scheduled for a surgical procedure called Deep Brain Stimulation to resolve the problem. DBS is used to treat Parkinson’s, tremors and many other movement disorders.

I thought, how courageous of her to be working a job that exposes her condition and then to be so transparent about it with complete strangers. I was touched, to say the least.

God whispered to me, “Pray with her, Jack.” I told her that we would like to pray with her. She put her hand in mine, smiled and said, “I’d love that.”

How easy it would have been to miss the gift of this young woman by wasting my time in judgement of her.

Accounting of God’s Word

Am I stretching out my hand to everyone God introduces to me or just the ones I feel safe with?
