“Ephphatha”

Absorbing God Word

After he took him aside, away from the crowd, Jesus put his fingers into the man’s ears. Then he spit and touched the man’s tongue. He looked up to heaven and with a deep sigh said to him, “Ephphatha!” (“Be opened!”). At this, the man’s ears were opened.” Mark 7:33-35

Applying God’s Word

I went to see my E.N.T last week and was moved by a detailed diagram of the ear, nose, and throat. When my doctor entered the room, I pointed to the diagram and said, “I’m in awe of how God has created us.” He replied, “I’m in awe of that every single day that I come to work.”

It made me think of all the times I took hearing for granted. It also made me think of things I’ve said and heard throughout my life that weren’t true. Fortunately, like the deaf man, Jesus touched me and said, “Ephphatha!” He not only opened me ears to the truth, but also my heart, soul, and mind.

Accounting of God’s Word

Have I allowed Jesus to touch me with His truth?
