Proverbs 12:19 – “Living The Lie”

Absorbing God’s Word

Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue lasts only a moment.”  Proverbs 12:19

Applying God’s Word

I know that none of you have ever lied, but I have. I remember lying, when I was a young boy. I lied as a form of protection from shameful events, from different forms of punishment by my parents, from embarrassment over my learning inadequacies and from issues of poor self-worth. Unfortunately, the habit accompanied me into my adult life.

Lying seemed to work with everyone except God. Therefore, with great sincerity, I finally asked God to forgive me for not being a more truthful person. The next thing I knew, I was attending a “Christians In Commerce Weekend”. (April of 87).

That weekend introduced me to accountability. I had never allowed myself to be held accountable. I operated as a secret agent, making my own choices, bending the rules to satisfy my wants and needs. Accountability in daily prayer and the reading of God’s Word (TRUTH) allowed me to appreciate the person God created me to be. The journey toward truth is not easy for any of us, but the rewards are priceless.

Writing the truth each week in the “Challenge” has probably influenced me more than it has any of you. It has been another form of accountability. ;>)

Accounting of God’s Word

Have I somehow convinced myself that I can go it alone; that I am self-sufficient? Does someone love me enough to hold me accountable? Am I living a lie?
