John 7:38 – “The Graph”?

Absorbing God’s Word

“Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” John 7:38

Applying God’s Word

Recently, I participated in another Christians in Commerce “Challenge” weekend. I gave a talk titled “Knowing God and His Plan”.

During this talk, I use a graph to demonstrate times when I have recognized God at work in my life and times when I did not. The bottom of the graph from left to right shows my age 0 to 70. The left side of the graph from bottom to top measures times when I sensed God’s presence in my life and/or times when I did not.

Interestingly, the first forty years on the graph shows dramatic moves toward God or away from Him based on the good and bad events that took place in my life. The last thirty years of the graph shows a more even line without radical moves toward or away from God.

The difference is like night and day. I had no relationship with God during the first forty years of my life. I only drew close to God when something good happened. When something bad occurred, I dropped God like a hot rock.

Some of the most tragic events of my life have occurred during the last thirty years. The difference is in knowing God intimately and fulfilling the plan He has for me while I am here.

Accounting of God’s Word

Do I know God well enough to know what His plan is for me? What’s my Graph look like?
