John 14:25 & 26 – “The Advocate”?

Absorbing God’s Word

“All this I have spoken while still with you. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” John 14:25 & 26

Applying God’s Word

Do I believe that Jesus sent us each an Advocate (The Holy Spirit)? Do I believe that Jesus died so that I could experience a close relationship with Him through His Holy Spirit?

I contribute my deep friendship with Jesus to the time spent with the Advocate (The Holy Spirit). I have come to know that I cannot do what the Advocate asks of me, know what He wants me to say or talk to others about Him unless I spend quality time getting to know Him.

I’m reminded of a story about a 72 year old man that prayed 5 minutes every day and went to church for an hour every Sunday. Added up, it totals less than six months of time with God. The story inspires me to pray and meditate on the scriptures even more. It challenges me to take my intimate relationship with the Advocate much more seriously.

Accounting of God’s Word

Do I believe in that the Holy Spirit is in me? Am I spending quality time with the Advocate God sent in the name of His son Jesus?
