James 1:22 – “Deceived”?

Absorbing God’s Word

“Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” James 1:22

Applying God’s Word

At times, I hear myself speak one thing and do another. When I do that I deceive myself and possibly others.

If I claim to be a follower of Jesus, I can’t just apply the parts of God’s “Word” that make me feel good. I must read and apply all of God’s “Word” to every aspect of my life.

Prior to reading the bible, I had a tendency to believe what others taught as truth. When I began to study God’s “Word” myself, I found out that many folks who talked the good talk were not necessarily walking the good walk. That’s why it’s so important for each of us to open our bibles and ask God to reveal His truth to us personally. Then we will be better prepared to do what His “Word” says.

Accounting of God’s Word

Am I reading God’s “Word” and doing what it says, or doing what others tell me to do?
