Matthew 17:27 – “The Taxman” ?

Absorbing God’s Word

“But so that we may not cause offense, go to the lake and throw out your line. Take the first fish you catch; open its mouth and you will find a four-drachma coin. Take it and give it to them for my tax and yours.” Matthew 17:27

Applying God’s Word

During the last month, I’ve received notices from the IRS and the Franchise Tax Board. I’m always amazed at what an intimate relationship they have with me/us. ;>)

Whenever I receive a letter about taxes, I try to respond immediately as not to betray the long-standing connection we have. There’s no Peter around to fish for funds that will appease tax collectors. I do have an awesome CPA firm that has taken care of me over the last thirty years, though.

So, thank You Lord for sending me CPA’s who know what they are doing. They are the modern-day Peters who have helped me navigate many different dealings having to do with taxes.

Accounting of God’s Word

Am I thankful for the taxes I pay? Am I thankful for those who help me understand what tax is or isn’t owed?
